Kraków (also spelled as Cracow or Krakow), is the second-largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Located on the Vistula River, the city has a population exceeding 800,000, with approximately 8 million additional people living within a 100 km radius. Kraków has traditionally been one of the leading centers of Polish cultural and artistic life.
The Stare Miasto (the Old Town) is a huge plaza and gathering place, while the royal castle and cathedral on Wawel Hill is worth the walk up the hill to view it and the city below. The Rynek Główny (Main Square) is supposedly one of the oldest medieval squares in Europe.
